VIJAYAWADA: The Roads and Buildings department has intensified road repair works across Krishna district. The focus is on Vijayawada-Nuzvid, Vijayawada-Gudivada roads and other state highways.
Incessant rains had damaged roads in Krishna district. Many roads connecting Vijayawada with key areas were damaged and commuters are having a difficult time. There were campaigns by various political parties calling attention to the poor state of the roads. TOI in its columns had highlighted the poor condition of Vijayawada-Nuzividu road.
The district administration directed the R&B authorities to take up repair works on war-footing. “Usually a certain amount is fixed for repair works and annual maintenance of R&B roads. Several roads were damaged due to rain and we are now using the maintenance fund for the repairs. We want to complete the maintenance works before summer. We will take up annual maintenance from now and ensure that motorists will not face any difficulty,” said district collector J Nivas.
The R&B department had started repair works of a few roads and are now preparing estimates to repair a stretch of 185 kilometer long state highways and arterial roads in the district.
