The first teaser for much-hyped superhero smackdown Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice has hit the web ahead of the full trailer’s debut in US Imax cinemas on Monday.

Director Zack Snyder posted the teaser, which features shots of both superheroes’ torsos and finishes with a combined Batman-Superman logo, on Twitter. Little is seen by way of footage from the new film, which follows 2013’s Superman reboot Man of Steel into cinemas and is expected to launch a new Warner Bros superhero “cinematic universe” based on the studio’s rights to the DC Comics back catalogue.

It is not known if Imax cinemas in other parts of the world will also be showing the full trailer, or whether the footage will also be released online. Snyder also posted a link for US fans to attend screenings, most of which were full within minutes of becoming available.

Batman v Superman, starring Ben Affleck as Batman, Henry Cavill as Superman, Jesse Eisenberg as Lex Luthor and Gal Gadot as Wonder Woman, is scheduled for release in March 2016. Warner Bros CEO Kevin Tsujihara has said Affleck will play a “tired and weary and seasoned” caped crusader who has been “been doing it for awhile”. Two Justice League movies, which are expected to unite Batman, Superman, Wonder Woman, Aquaman and others as DC’s iconic superhero team, will follow in 2017 and 2019.
