Batman resumes filming in Liverpool with possible plot hints on show

Parts of Liverpool have been transformed into Gotham City as filming for the new Batman movie continues.

St George's Hall has been a hive of activity with production and set crews building scenes.

Photographs on Sunday showed props covering the stairs of the hall, with some suggestion of plot lines revealed.

Flowers and tributes have been adorned on the stairs, as well as a framed picture.

An American flag and police cars could also be spotted.

Filming is back underway after the schedule was halted because of the coronavirus pandemic.

Filming in the city was to begin in March but due to lockdown, production ground to a stand-still.

American filmmaker Matt Reeves, who is directing the upcoming superhero film, said Liverpool was still to provide the backdrop for Gotham City when filming resumed.

The city is expected to play a massive role in the big Hollywood blockbuster as the crew shoot the remaining 75% of the film.

The Batman production is expected to be filming in the city from October 12 to October 16 with the surrounding area to be augmented with CGI to serve as the downtown area.

The film, considered a reboot of the Batman franchise, stars Robert Pattinson in his first outing as the new Batman after Ben Affleck handed over the keys to the Batmobile.

The movie is expected to feature a younger Batman.

A number of roads including William Brown Street have been closed to accommodate filming. Due to the impact of Covid-19 the film now has a release date of 2022, with two sequels planned.
