Bathurst 1000 spectator numbers confirmed

Only 4000 spectators will be able to attend next month's Bathurst 1000 due to COVID-19 restrictions. (AAP)

Mount Panorama will be quieter than normal this October with only 4000 spectators a day allowed to attend the Supercars' Bathurst 1000.

COVID-19 restrictions will prevent the Supercars' first season-finale at Bathurst for 20 years from being packed full of rev-heads.

Camping is banned, while fans will be prevented from viewing the great race from the top of the famous mountain.

Reserved seating options are only available at the bottom of the mountain, along with sections including Murray's corner and Hell corner.

"A racetrack like Mount Panorama is not as easy as a stadium to prepare in a COVID-19 compliant way due to the lack of dedicated seating," Supercars chief executive Sean Seamer said.

"We thank the NSW Government and Bathurst Regional Council for their ongoing support of the event and for working with us on a plan.

"We understand a number of fans will be disappointed that camping and normal ticketing opportunities are not available this year, however the safety of everyone attending the event is our main concern at all times."

The four-day event, from October 15-18, will likely be two-time defending champion Scott McLaughlin's swansong from Supercars.

The Shell V-Power ace is tipped to quit Australia's touring car series and race full-time in the United States next year.

McLaughlin is already confirmed to debut for Team Penske in the IndyCar series finale in St Petersburg, Florida, just a week after the Bathurst 1000.
