BATHINDA: Employees covered under new pension scheme (NPS) protested in Bathinda on Sunday to demand the restoration of old pension scheme, which was applicable till December 2003.
Employees said the Congress before 2017 assembly elections had promised to restore old pension for employees retiring from government service, but even after close to four and half years that promise had not been kept and the new pension scheme was applicable on employees having joined service after January 2004.
Employees from various departments assembled under the banner of old pension restoration struggle committee. Committee convener Jasbir Singh and co.-convener Jagsir Singh Sahota said Congress government had forgotten most of the promises it made in 2017. Employees covered under NPS get a small amount in pension after putting in years of service, said the committee.
