Amid warning of heat wave in parts of Punjab and Haryana, Bathinda sizzled at 48°C on Sunday.
For most cities in the region, it was the hottest day of the season. Amritsar recorded the maximum temperature of 47.5°C, while Ferozepur was the third-most hottest city in Punjab at 47.4°C. Patiala and Ludhiana, too, reeled under scorching heat with the mercury reaching 46.3°C and 46.2°C, respectively.
In the neighbouring Haryana, Sirsa recorded 47.4°C, and Hisar and Bhiwani sizzled at 46.6°C and 46.4°C, respectively.
While the temperature remained high in Chandigarh (45.4°C) and Jammu ( 45.1°C), in Himachal Pradesh, Una and Kangra recorded 44.8°C and 42°C, respectively, with the capital Shimla, a hill station, recording 30.1°C.
The Indian Meteorological Department, Chandigarh, has warned that heat wave conditions are likely at isolated places in south-west parts of Punjab and Haryana for the next 36 hours. It has also predicted warm nights on June 4 and June 5.
However, on June 6 and June 7, thunderstorm accompanied with high-velocity winds has been predicted.
