Bathgate to Edinburgh rush-hour trains cancelled as commuters left stranded at station

Commuters in West Lothian have been left fuming this morning after rush-hour cancellations.

Scotrail announced disruption to services between Bathgate and Edinburgh at around 6am.

In a statement on Twitter they said: "We have received reports of damage to the overhead lines in the Bathgate area.

"We will update you once we have more information from our staff on the ground."

It is understood that the damage has been repaired and Scotrail are once again able to run services as normal, however there is still likely to be delays.

Scotrail tickets will be accepted on First Buses between Bathgate-Edinburgh until 7:30am this morning.

While the trains may be returning to normal, disgruntled passengers took to social media to complain after being left stranded at the station.

In a tweet to Scotrail, Samantha said: "Why do you wait till the last second before telling us trains are cancelled?

"You've had us standing about like idiots for an extra half hour when we could have made other travel arrangements from Bathgate to Edinburgh?"

She added that the app and on the screens at the station had advised commuters that services were running as normal.
