Bathgate's man Burns inspired musical goes to Fringe

A Bathgate playwright’s Burns inspired musical is on this week at the Edinburgh Fringe.

The musical was written by John Ward ten years ago and returns to Edinburgh for a run of shows to mark the anniversary.

Ward, the former Livingston Football Club CEO, said: “Working with a football club is not dissimilar to producing and writing for theatre. At Livingston I always felt part of my role was to engage with fans and it really isn’t that different in the music industry.”

“I feel connected to my Scottish roots and wanted to celebrate the greatest writer we have, while exploring what is one of the most romantic stories in Scottish history. This story is over 300 years old, but still has resonance today.”

The story tells the tale of Scottish outlaw James Macpherson as he encounters overwhelming love, devastating loss, and betrayal. The production takes you on a musical journey amidst the tension of the Jacobite uprising and is set to some of Scotland’s most iconic music, including songs by Robert Burns.

The show takes place at Old Dr Bells’ Baths at Leith, 121 Great Junction Street from August 13 - 18. Tickets are £15 and can be bought from the box-office by calling 0131 226 0000.
