Bathgate's Amazon warehouse reports Covid outbreak

The Bathgate Amazon warehouse has been hit with a coronavirus outbreak it has been confirmed.

At least six contract delivery drivers who work at the West Lothian site are said to have tested positive for the bug, around 24 others have been told to self-isolate, reports Edinburgh Live.

According to reports the outbreak started at a small office at the Bathgate warehouse that more than 30 contractors use.

On Monday and Tuesday last week, two people were said to have tested positive with another four covid cases confirmed between Friday and Sunday.

A spokesperson for Amazon said: “We are supporting the individuals who are now in quarantine.

“Since the early days of this situation, we have worked closely with local authorities to proactively respond, ensuring we continue to serve customers while taking care of our associates and we’re following all guidelines from local officials about the operations of our buildings.

“We have implemented proactive measures at our facilities to protect associates including increased cleaning at all facilities, maintaining social distance in our sites, and adding distance between drivers and customers when making deliveries.”

They added that the workers caught covid despite perspex screens in place at the office.
