Batgirl film crews offer Glasgow residents earplugs and blackout blinds ahead of noisy action scenes

Batgirl film crews have been offering Glasgow residents earplugs and blackout blinds ahead of a number of noisy action sequences.

The comic book blockbuster is being filmed in our city, standing in for fictional metropolis Gotham City.

It's been suggested a series of vehicle chases could be filmed in Glasgow in the coming days.

Daily Record reports production company American Night handed out letters to local residents and businesses ahead of potential late night filming up until 1.30am next week in and around the Trongate area.

As part of this, the producers have warned of noisy filming and the use of bright lights - and have offered earplugs and blackout window covers to reduce disruption.

The letter, seen on social media, said: "We mentioned in our previous letter that considering the anti-social hours of some of our work, we can provide black-out material for windows and/or foam earplugs to anybody who feels they may need them.

"We have been given permission by Glasgow City Council to install temporary road closures during our filming and related work, to ensure the safety of both the wider public and our film crew while we operate near these roads.

"As mentioned previously, there may also be a requirement for some pedestrian management within the area.

"For those homes and businesses in the immediate vicinity this may mean that we have to ask people to wait for a short period of time before being escorted to/from their destination.

"We appreciate that this may be an inconvenience and will endeavour to keep waiting times as short as possible."

Batgirl, starring Leslie Grace, J.K. Simmons and Brendan Fraser, is the latest in the DC Extended Universe series of films including the likes of Justice League, Aquaman, Wonder Woman and Suicide Squad.

Michael Keaton is set to reprise his role as Batman again with the actor appearing in The Flash film, which also shot scenes in Glasgow.

While the filming will cause disruption, the mood is welcoming among local businesses.

Androo Faulkner, owner of Glasgow games shop R-CADE on the Saltmarket, said: "As a part of the geek and pop culture scene in Glasgow we are always on board when big budget films and the like come to the city.

"Not only because it produces revenue for the local infrastructure through both jobs and tourism but also because our customers are a buzz with excitement too.

"For us personally, it's fantastic to meet fans from all around the world that have travelled to Glasgow to see their favourite franchise or actors.

"When filming affects us with road closures and such we have learned to turn a hindrance into a positive over the years.

"And we love having people visit us regardless of transport problems simply to take in the atmosphere of a huge production in progress.

"Honestly it's fantastic to simply walk around and see what is being done to the local area.

"There is whispers of fake snow and the Batmobile appearing too which as a fan of DC will be absolutely magical."

Glasgow also stood in for Gotham in the upcoming The Batman starring Robert Pattinson later this year.

The Batgirl filming is also another feather in Glasgow's hat as a top choice for filmmakers looking for stand-ins for other real life cities.

George Square stood in for Philadelphia in the opening of World War Z, starring Brad Pitt, while other hits like Cloud Atlas, Indiana Jones and the Fast and Furious series have also made use of the city streets.
