Bastian Schweinsteiger drops Jose Mourinho job hint amid Bayern Munich links

Ex-Manchester United midfielder Bastian Schweinsteiger has revealed Jose Mourinho was always asking him about life at Bayern Munich and was learning German amid links to the vacant job.

The Bundesliga champions have made a slow start to the season and were embarrassed 5-1 at Eintracht Frankfurt at the weekend which cost Niko Kovac his job.

Defeat was the club's heaviest loss in the league in 10 years, rendering his position at the club untenable.

Bayern chief executive officer Karl-Heinz Rummenigge, said: "The performances of our team in recent weeks and the results have shown us that there was a need for action."

Former United boss Mourinho is still looking for a job after being dismissed by the Reds in December 2018.

He has been heavily linked with the now vacant position at the Allianz Arena and Schweinsteiger has admitted the Portuguese was eager to learn more about the club in the past and was learning German at the time.

"I can imagine Mourinho in Germany," he told Deutsche Welle .

"I remember he was always asking me about Bayern and the Bundesliga. During our away games, there was always Bundesliga on TV.

"He really knew every single player, even from the smaller teams. He was also learning German."
