Bassetlaw General Election 2019 result in full

Labour's stronghold of Bassetlaw has switched to the Conservatives.

It is the first move away from Labour since 1929 and it was also the biggest swing in England between the two parties, at 18 percent.

The area sits between the Midlands and the North and voted to strongly to leave in the EU referendum.

Despite it being a Labour heartland, the majority was not huge and stood at 4,852 at the last election.

But the Conservatives now have a huge majority of more than 14,000, as Brendan Clarke-Smith won the constituency with 28,078 votes.

Former Bassetlaw MP John Mann, who stood down at this election, hit out at Labour after the result.

He told BBC News that when out speaking to people in the constituency, they said: “We don’t want Corbyn, we are not having Corbyn. They decided not to vote for the Brexit Party but to vote for Boris Johnson because of his message of getting Brexit done.”

The full result:

Keir Morrison, Labour: 14,065

Helen Tamblyn-Saville, Liberal Democrat: 3,332

Debbie Soloman, Brexit Party: 5,366

Brendan Clarke-Smith, Conservative: 28,078
