Melbourne man Bassam Raad has been charged with the murder of his wife.
In a brief, out-of-sessions hearing at Melbourne magistrates court on Wednesday night, Raad was charged with one count of murder and three counts of intentionally causing injury. The body of his wife, 27-year-old Zeinab Taleb, was found wrapped in a quilt at a tennis centre car park in Dallas, 18km north of Melbourne, on 17 June.
The injury charges relate to the alleged assault of three children, a six-year-old boy, four-year-old boy and two-year-old girl. The children had some of their bones broken when they were hospitalised on Monday with non life-threatening injuries.
During the hearing, detective senior constable Miranda Stubbs said forensic officers found a “considerable amount of blood” inside a Broadmeadows home, leading them to believe Raad had killed his wife there. Her body was found one suburb away.
Raad, 34, made a brief appearance in the Melbourne magistrates court on Thursday, where he did not apply for bail.
Raad will next appear in court via video link in November for a committal mention.
