Basketball Victoria's chief executive has been banned from attending matches after an altercation with an umpire at his daughter's junior basketball game.
An independent tribunal imposed the eight-week ban on Nick Honey after the incident at the under-12s match in Box Hill in February.
It is understood Mr Honey approached the junior match umpire in front of children at the game to "discuss umpiring standards".
He "touched" the umpire during the altercation but no further details about the type of physical contact involved were provided by Basketball Victoria.
Mr Honey was charged with avoidable contact with a referee, gross breach of the code of conduct and bringing basketball into disrepute.
Sanction accepted 'without question'
In a statement, Basketball Victoria said Mr Honey had apologised for his conduct and was only suspended from attending basketball games in an unofficial capacity.
The statement said he was allowed to attend games in his capacity as Basketball Victoria's chief executive and he continued to head the organisation.
"Mr Honey realises as the head of sporting organisation he is held to a higher account than other basketball spectators and accepted his sanction without question."
Mr Honey, who was formerly the head of Athletics Victoria, will be able to attend his children's basketball games again from May 2.
"Mr Honey has been supported throughout this process by the Basketball Victoria board and the entire organisation," the statement said.
