Basketball Ireland announce second season of the Irish Jr NBA League for 2019

Basketball Ireland are bringing back the Irish Jr NBA League after a successful first season last year.

The programme saw basketball clubs and schools across the country partner up last year to learn the game before taking to the floor at the National Basketball Arena in Tallaght for a countrywide face-off.

The same will happen again this year, with the National Festival of Basketball in Tallaght hosting the big event in December.

26 teams from 10 different counties took part last year in an event hosted by NBA ambassador - and former champion with the Miami Heat - Ronny Turiaf.

"We are really excited for the second year of the Jr. NBA," said Basketball Ireland's Head of Development Jason Killeen.

"Last year, over 2,000 children got involved with basketball through the participating schools and clubs, and we’ve already seen over 100 children start their long-term journey in basketball by joining clubs.

"This year, we are going to have ten new clubs and thirty new schools, which means there are opportunities for even more children to play in the Jr. NBA."
