Basketball coach found dead in park nearly week after going missing

A popular basketball coach has been found dead in a park nearly a week after he went missing.

Makuach Yak, 31, was discovered on Friday evening inside the Delray Oaks Natural Area park in Florida, US, just days after he went for a run.

Delray Beach Police Department do not believe his death is suspicious, however, an investigation is underway to determine the cause.

Cops said: "It is with great sadness to announce that Makuach Yak, 31, was found deceased this evening inside the Delray Oaks Natural Area. Right now, it appears his death is not criminal in nature.

"The medical examiner will determine the cause of death. The investigation remains open."

Friends and family had been out searching for the missing coach (Delray Beach Police Department)

Mr Yak, a youth basketball coach, was due to be on a coach on May 20 but failed to turn up, according to his friend Tate VanRoekel.

CCTV footage given to police shows the coach in his front garden at around 6.30am that day in a purple shirt and black shorts.

Mr VanRoekel said his friend's wallet, keys, mobile phone and Apple Watch were "all on the counter, just sitting there."

Concerned friends and family reported him missing and have held multiple search parties throughout Delray Beach, where Mr Yak is from.

In addition, they created a Facebook group named "Missing: Find Coach Yak" and posted regular updates.

The group said on Friday: "We ask that you pray for his family and all who loved him. We are devastated."

Mr Yak's sister Nyalang posted an emotional tribute to her brother on a GoFundMe page set up to try and help the family with funeral expenses.

She wrote: "We would like to express our deepest gratitude to all those who were part of the search efforts, raising awareness, and showing unwavering support for Makuach and his family during their time of need.

"Your dedication, love, and commitment to finding Makuach will always be remembered.

"Although the outcome was not what we had hoped for, your contributions and efforts were instrumental in ensuring that no stone was left unturned.

"Please accept our heartfelt thank you for your unwavering dedication and for standing by the family's side throughout this journey.

"Makuach's untimely departure has left his family shattered, confused and their hearts burdened with an indescribable sorrow.

"The loss of a child, a sibling, a friend is a pain that words cannot fully express. It is in these moments of profound grief that we must rally together, enveloping the family in love and compassion to help them navigate the difficult days ahead."

The GoFundMe page so far has raised over $8,000 out of a target of $10,000.

The money going will be going towards Yak's memorial arrangements, according to his sister.
