Basement Jaxx to headline North Berwick's Fringe by the Sea

Fringe by the Sea is back with its 13th edition and even bigger artists, bringing a diverse range of musicians, comedians, authors and much more to the small East Lothian town of North Berwick.

The full programme will feature over 160 events across a multitude of genres at a variety of venues, including musical workshops, open mic sessions for those who love a bit of karaoke, guided walks around the festival and art exhibitions.

The Fringe by the Sea aims to showcase some of the best high profile acts alongside local talent also, making it a hotbed of up-and-coming musicians.

The full programme has not yet been released, but the first six musical acts have been announced. Headlining the opening night on August 7 with an electronic DJ set is duo Basement Jaxx, which is comprised of Felix Buxton and Simon Ratcliffe.

American singer/songwriter Candi Staton will also grace the festival, performing at The Big Spiegeltent, on August 14 with her outstanding talent, while Fun Lovin' Criminals frontman Huey Morgan is joined by Dat Brass the following evening on August 15 for his NYC block party.

For those who are a fan of a bit of folk rock, Fringe by the Sea is offering up Peat & Diesel in The Lighthouse Spiegeltent on August 14 as the Big Spiegeltent sets up to welcome The Blues Band on August 12 in its 40th anniversary year.

Speaking to The List, general manager of Fringe by the Sea Jackie Shuttleworth says: "We're really pleased to have secured these artists to kick start the festival programme. Over the next few months we will be adding dozens more acts to the line-up for Fringe by the Sea, which is now a firm fixture in the Scottish festival scene.

"As a not for profit organisation, we rely on the generous support of our funders and sponsors to help make the festival happen. We say a big thank you to those who've committed their support once again, and we are thrilled to welcome on board Mactaggart & Mickel as Master Sponsor. Their support will help us deliver an extra special festival experience for our 25,000 visitors."

The festival runs from August 7 to August 16. More acts are set to be announced shortly but in the meantime, you can check out the latest news and information about the festival here.
