SAITAMA -- Baseball fans were able to finish up any last-minute work and still make it to the stadium in time to cheer on the local Seibu Lions on Thursday, at the start of a unique initiative by Seibu Railway Co. that put a new spin on the word "telecommuting."

During the two-day "Working Train" event, workers could board a commuter train converted into a teleworking space at Seibu Kyujo-mae Station, the closest station to Seibu MetLife Dome in Tokorozawa, Saitama Prefecture.

A fare of 110 yen per 10 minutes provided access to 65 desks set up inside the train cars, along with a power supply, color printer, and Wi-Fi. The event took place from 1 p.m. to 5 p.m. and the maximum fare was set at 1,100 yen.

The railway said they hoped the initiative would encourage more fans to come out to the stadium to cheer on the hometown team.

The event was also to be held from 1 p.m. to 5 p.m. on Friday.
