Baseball dents Luke Voit’s elbow in amazing photo

The Yankees opened their season in the Bronx on Thursday with a breezy 7-2 win over the Orioles, and 2018 midseason acquisition Luke Voit had one of his best-ever games in New York.

Voit reached base in all four of his plate appearances, with a three-run homer in his first at-bat of the season. In the fifth, Voit earned his fourth RBI of the game when he was plunked by Baltimore’s Mike Wright with the bases loaded. Getty Images photographer Sarah Stier captured an incredible image of the moment of impact.

Voit was unhurt, fortunately, though he might want to think about wearing some extra protection. Voit also drew two walks in the game and finished the opener 1-for-1.

Yankees fans were openly calling for Voit, who was the Yankees designated hitter on Opening Day, to replace Greg Bird at first base moving forward after Bird racked up three strikeouts – but Bird capped the game with a solo home run.
