Baseball appears not to be an issue for Cardinals, Kyler Murray

One worry the Arizona Cardinals might have with the selection of quarterback Kyler Murray with the first overall pick in the draft is the potential he could walk away and return to baseball.

He was, after all, drafted No. 9 overall by the Oakland Athletics last year.

However, he is committed to football. Murray was asked about it on a conference call with the Arizona media after he was drafted and he declared, “My only future is in football right now.”

Of course the caveat of “right now” is one many have heard before and it leaves the possibility he could change his mind. However, in terms of a contract, the Cardinals and Murray’s agent seem to be on the same page.

Some believe the Cardinals should have a clear no-baseball clause in the eventual contract Murray will sign. Whether that is what will happen, according to NFL Network’s Mike Silver, the Cardinals will have protection in the contract should Murray ever decide to return to baseball.

For now, there is no thought about baseball. He picked football and was just made the No. 1 overall pick in the draft. Unless things go badly from him in the NFL, he is in the league to stay.
