A major road has been closed after the emergence of a 'large' sink hole.

Greater Manchester Police have issued an alert to motorists as a result.

They are being asked to avoid the area.

Vehicles are now being turned around, according to reports.

The busy road runs to EventCity and the intu Trafford Centre.

Trafford councillor Mike Cordingley came across the hole while out jogging this afternoon.

He took these pictures - but it's not known whether the damage has worsened since.

The road has now been closed by police.

It's been closed since 5.50pm, according to reports, and three bus services are being diverted, the X50, 150 and 250.
