Bartender shares sneaky trick staff use when customer says drink is too weak

There's usually nothing better than the first sip of a long-awaited drink - however sometimes it doesn't taste quite like we'd hoped.

After standing at a bustling bar and waiting an age to be served, it can be annoying when the drink you've paid for just doesn't taste strong enough. But if you've ever made this complaint to a server, its likely the replacement you were given instead isn't exactly what you expected.

One bar tender has shared a sneaky trick of the trade that staff use when a customer claims their drink is too weak - and some are not happy about the revelation. Posting to TikTok, user @soberbartender19 shows off the controversial method - which seems to be a well-known tip within the industry if the comments are anything to go by.

In the clip, the bartender can be seen "teaching the rookie how to deal with 'it's not strong enough'", as per the onscreen caption. He then pours a splash of alcohol into a ready-made drink, through a straw, according to the Mirror.

No explanation is offered, but the method looks more likely to give the impression of a stronger taste, than do much to alter the drink, based on the small trickle of liquid used. But the caption does include advice for anyone hoping for a stronger kick to their drink. "Order a double," it reads.

The video has since racked up over five million likes, and it ignited a fierce debate about whether bartenders should use the trick. One the one hand, some took objection to the handling of the straw.

"Don't touch my straw," one person wrote. "Hand flavoured beverage," another added.

But some people defended the bartender, with one commenter replying: "People saying 'ew don't touch the straw' have no idea what happens in the kitchen of restaurants." Another simply said: "My favorite bar trick."
