Bartender leaves people divided over response to customer who asked for 'no ice'

A bartender sparked an internet debate when she shared a video of herself explaining to a customer ordering 'no ice' that he wouldn't be getting any extra booze in his cup - but users are wondering if her attitude went too far.

Jemima June's video has gained over 7 million views since it was posted less than a month ago, and the debate is still raging, with many users insisting they're not trying to 'scam' bartenders into giving them more alcohol, they're 'just cold', while others agree with June that this happens way too often.

In the video, the camera focuses on June behind the bar as a customer approaches and can be heard asking for a tequila cranberry, with 'no ice.'

The bartender makes the drink and tries to hand it to him as he clarifies one more time that he doesn't want ice, which is when June begins schooling the customer.

She looked at him after his second request and asked: "Do you want a DOUBLE tequila cranberry?"

"Just cause you say no ice doesn't mean you're gonna get more alcohol,' she explained. 'Double, that means you're gonna get more alcohol," explains the barkeep.

It turns out, though, users on TikTok were less than thrilled with her outburst.

One user wrote, "I asked for no ice and the bartender gave me a whole lecture. I was like 'I just don’t want my drink watered down,'" while another commenter says, "I asked for no ice and the bartender gave me a whole lecture. I was like “I just don’t want my drink watered down."

For the most part though, the comment wholeheartedly supported the bartender, with many acknowledging that dealing with drunk customers is a tough job.

A supporter said, "it takes a different kind of person to be a bartender."

Another one mentioned: "Us bartenders know exactly what no ice means - you knew instantly your face you’re like okay no ice got it," reminding the public that this is a common stunt people pull at bars on a nightly basis.

Someone else joked: "Not them trying to use their Starbucks hacks at the club!"

Plenty of others in the nightlife industry agreed with June though - one person remarked, "This is my BIGGEST PET PEEVE. Like okay lemme clock out real quick and you do my job then," and another defended the Tenessee worker with, "I'm a bartender in NY, where is the attitude in here exactly? she was nice!"

Jemima June is a TikToker with a popular account where she often shows off her bartending hacks and is known for opening bottles super quickly.
