Barstobrick Riding Centre appealing for funds to help horses through coronavirus pandemic

A riding school is appealing for funds to ensure its horses stay fit and well during the coronavirus pandemic.

Barstobrick Riding Centre near Ringford has been forced to close due to Covid-19 but the seven horses and ponies still need to be fed.

And that has led yard manager Isla Foley to launch an online fundraising campaign with a tentative target of £3,000.

Isla said: “With no income we need help to keep the horses healthy so they are ready to continue their work when we can hopefully reopen. The income has stopped but the outgoings don’t.

“Our horses work very hard and do an amazing job of teaching beginners up to experienced riders giving enjoyment and confidence.

“Our horses are also used for Galloway RDA and we give a lot of disabled clients and clients with special needs private lessons and treks.

”The best part of my job is seeing how therapeutic a horse can be or taking someone on a trek that uses a wheelchair, horses give them freedom.

“One hundred per cent of any money raised will go to the horses’ upkeep during the period of closure. Any donations, no matter how small, will be very much appreciated during this tough time.”

People are encouraged to donate towards their favourite horse or pony so that they can “enjoy their holiday and be cared for in the best possible way.”
