Hall of Fame running back Barry Sanders took to social media to thank quarterback Matthew Stafford on his way out of Detroit. The Lions will part ways with Stafford, per reports. The team agreed to send Stafford to the Los Angeles Rams in exchange for quarterback Jared Goff, two first-round picks (2022, 2023) and a third round pick (2021).
It ends Stafford’s 12-year stint in Detroit, where he went 74-90-1 as a starter. He did not win a postseason game (0-3), but managed to help stabilize a franchise which went 0-16 in the 2008 season before it drafted him at No. 1 overall. Sanders, who also endured some tough seasons with the team, showed his appreciation for Stafford’s efforts on and off the field.
