Barry Murphy has joined St Pat’s for a third spell ahead of next week’s season opener against Shamrock Rovers.
The goalkeeper, 35, took a break from the League of Ireland last season to focus on work and education commitments.
Murphy, who also had two spells with the Hoops and a stint with Bohemians, will provide cover for new Saints No 1 Vitezslav Jaros.
Jaros, 19, is on loan from Liverpool where he made the bench for three of their Champions League games this season.
Murphy said: “I’m delighted to be back. I’ve been training the past couple of days and it’s been good to get back playing and meet the new lads coming in.
“It’s a young, hungry group and I’m hoping to add some experience to what’s going to be an exciting year.
“I took a year out last season, which probably wasn’t a bad year to take out due to Covid, but I’ve kept myself ticking over.
“Alan Mathews and Stephen O’Donnell got in contact with me and I’m excited to be part of it again.”
Saints boss Stephen O’Donnell said: “I’m delighted to get Barry on board. He’s a really good goalkeeper and professional.
“He has a great attitude and will give us a vast amount of experience and ability having played in the league for over a decade.
“He’s a great character to have in the group and to compete with and help Viteslav Jaros and Josh Keeley.
