Barry Keoghan replaces Paul Mescal in upcoming Irish drama

The BAFTA-winning actor Barry Keoghan has replaced fellow award-winning Irish actor Paul Mescal in the upcoming drama Bring Them Down.

Keoghan, who recently won a BAFTA for his role in The Banshees of Inisherin replaced Mescal, who alongside Keoghan was nominated for an Oscar in this year’s award show, in the new film which is in its final stages of production, The Hollywood Reporter has revealed.

Alongside Keoghan replacing Mescal, English actor Tom Burke has also been replaced by the American actor Christopher Abbott.

The film, which has no release date yet, also stars Colm Meaney, Susan Lynch, and Paul Ready, Nora-Jane Noone.

Co-produced by the Irish company Tailored Films and made in conjunction with Screen Ireland and the Broadcasting Authority of Ireland the film is the debut feature of writer-director Chris Andrews.

The film, which is currently being shot in Ireland, is based in the country's west and follows the story of a sheep farmer who comes into conflict with a nearby farm after his sheep are killed by strangers.

Although no longer starring in the film, Mescal will be joining host Ryan Tubridy on Friday night’s Late Late Show where the pair will talk about gaining overnight fame on Normal People, becoming a poster boy for the Irish language on the BAFTA red carpet, and competing with Colin Farrell for an Oscar.

Paul will also discuss his new film God’s Creatures, which opens the Dublin International Film Festival this week and stars Emily Watson, who will also join Ryan on Friday.
