Barry Keoghan lands role in Marvel's The Eternals six years after asking Stan Lee to 'make him a superhero'

Barry Keoghan has landed his dream role in an upcoming Marvel flick - six years after he asked the legendary Stan Lee to give him a shot.

The Dubliner will join a star-studded cast in The Eternals, which includes Game Of Thrones stars Kit Harington and Richard Madden, as well as Angelina Jolie and Salma Hayek.

The 26-year-old will take on the role of the superhuman Druig.

Keoghan has also starred in the Oscar-winning Dunkirk as well as American Animals and Black ‘47.

On Saturday he shared a tweet he had sent Marvel master Stan Lee in 2013.

It simply reads: “Stan Lee, please make me a SuperHero :)”

He quoted the original tweet after the announcement and added: “2013... The power of belief.”

At the time of the tweet, Keoghan had appeared in just a few Irish films including Between The Canals, Stalker and King Of The Travellers.

Fans and stars alike were quick to share their congratulations after he made the announcement.

Dwayne ‘The Rock’ Johnson said: “Great meeting you BK.

“Congrats, kick ass and have fun on #TheEternals. #mcu”

Broadcaster Eoghan McDermott said: “Goals, planning, action, unreal talent, perseverance and a sprinkling of something from the universe = this good shit.

“Congrats dude x”

One fan said: “Look at you go! So proud of you.”

Another added: “The stuff dreams are made of lad, do us all proud.”

The Eternals are an immortal alien race created by the Celestials, and have been sent to Earth to protect humanity from their evil counterparts, the Deviants.

It isn’t clear whether Keoghan’s character will be an enemy or not in the flick as in the comic book, he changes side regularly.

The Eternals is slated for release on November 6, 2020.
