Barry Island absolutely jam-packed as crowds squeeze the last drops out of summer

There was hardly any space on the sand as August Bank Holiday Monday sun-seekers flocked to Barry Island to make the most of the excellent weather.

Whitmore Bay was packed out with umbrellas, deckchairs and beach towels as families and friends made sure that summer was going to last, at least one more day, before school starts back next week and alarm clocks are set for work tomorrow.

There were visitors from far and wide, as well as locals, chomping on chips and ice cream while dodging the seagulls.

There were some people, however, not having such a nice time. Motorists were stuck in a bumper-to-bumper traffic en route into the Island as parking spots filled up quickly.

The weather is set to become more unsettled as the week goes on, according to the Met Office, with next weekend possibly seeing showers.
