Barry Hearn is recovering after undergoing surgery following a heart attack.
Boxing promoter son Eddie confirmed the news on Twitter.
He posted: "As if we can’t thank the NHS enough, I want to particularly thank the staff at Broomfield & Basildon.
"My dad @BarryHearn was taken to hospital on Sunday after a minor heart attack and was operated on yesterday. He is up and well and returns home today in good spirits! Thank you."
Matchroom chief Barry, 71, heads up the Professional Darts Corporation and the World Professional Billiards and Snooker Association after 47 years and counting in sports promotion.
He was also previously the chairman of Leyton Orient and has been involed in pool, tenpin bowling, golf and fishing.
Hearn, from Dagenham, Essex, begun promoting snooker in 1974 and formed Matchroom in the 1980s with players including Steve Davis, Dennis Taylor, Willie Thorne and Jimmy White.
In 1987 he moved into boxing, his first promotion being Frank Bruno's fight against Joe Bugner at White Hart Lane in October of that year.
He went on to promote boxers including Chris Eubank, Nigel Benn, Lennox Lewis and Naseem Hamed. His son, Eddie, now manages Matchroom's boxing arm.
Hearn is the chairman of the Professional Darts Corporation, overseeing the sports' boom to its present-day populatity.
He was chairman of Leyton Orient from 1985 until 2014.
