Barry Gray feels his Warrenpoint side matched Glentoran all over pitch

Warrenpoint boss Barry Gray last night saluted the character of his team after they nicked a point against Glentoran at the Oval with a 0-0 draw.

It was not game that will live long in the memory with plenty of effort and commitment from both sides but precious few goal-mouth incidents.

“We came here probably a bit under strength, but I thought we matched Glentoran all over the pitch,” said former Cliftonville boss Gray. “We are a team that plays with no fear and I reckon that was reflected with our performance.

“Had we been a little bit careful in front of goal, we could have taken all three points, but we’re happy to go down the road with a share of the spoils.”

The Glens were given a fright after only six minutes. Colm Deasy’s monster throw-in was misjudged by giant goalkeeper Dayle Coleing, but Town failed to take advantage.

They home team were almost in front on 50 minutes. Dayle Gorman’s wonder pass picked out the lively Paul O’Neill, whose low drive appeared destined for the bottom corner until Coleman stuck out a leg to deflect for a corner kick.

The Glens really should have been in front with 18 minutes remaining.

Gorman’s short corner found substitute Jamie McDonagh, whose cross was met by the towering Paddy McClean, but the big defender headed wide from point-blank range.
