Barry Ferguson quits Kelty Hearts as Rangers legend opens up on next managerial step amid Alloa interest

Rangers legend Barry Ferguson has confirmed he has left Kelty Hearts after their promotion from the Lowland League.

Ferguson leaves the Lowland League champions into the SPFL for the first time in their history in Sunday’s play-off victory over Brechin City.

Record Sport exclusively revealed earlier today that Alloa want the former Clyde manager as the man to kick-start their own promotion push after relegation from the Championship last season.

The Ibrox icon confirmed on the Go Radio Football Show that he was leaving his post and would speak to two SPFL clubs before deciding his next move.

Ferguson said: "I had made my choice no matter what happened, whether Kelty stayed in the Lowland League or we got promoted, I was going to move on.

"It was a tough talk, it was an emotional night after we got promoted, but I think it was a respectful way that I did it. Eye to eye, I done it as a man.

"They were disappointed, but I just feel like it's the time for me to move on and have a new challenge.

"We will see what happens in the next few days. I've not met any clubs out of respect for the playoff games, and I was firmly focussed on getting Kelty into the SPFL, and then I was going to have a sit down with them.

"Now I've done the job it's time for me to move on to a new challenge. Where that's going to be, I don't know. I'm going to have a chat with a couple of clubs over the next couple of days."
