Barry Ferguson pinpoints Alfredo Morelos' Rangers role change as he backs him for Aberdeen glory

Barry Ferguson insists Alfredo Morelos' role at Rangers has changed and focusing on his goalscoring is futile.

The Rangers legend reckons a lot of people won't realise the work Morelos is doing for the team away from scoring goals, and isn't getting the credit because of his record in the past.

Morelos has seven goals in 16 games in all competitions so far this season, while this time last year he was scoring goals with every touch.

But he is dropping deeper and it's allowing Rangers to create space in behind for the likes of Ryan Kent, Ianis Hagi, Joe Aribo and even James Tavernier to go further than the striker.

And Ferguson reckons Morelos will have a big part to play when Steven Gerrard's men take on Aberdeen on Sunday.

In his Daily Record column, he wrote: "I can see Morelos coming back in up front.

"It’ll depend on how he feels after international duty and his long flight back from South America and the manager will look his players in the eye to see if they are up for it.

"People point to him not scoring so many goals this season but he is bringing so much to the team that people probably don’t see.

"He’s doing the dirty side of the game, works hard and occupies defenders constantly."
