Barry Ferguson on Rangers, Lennon and Sutton as Ibrox legend quips 'hope you're not sending me to Celtic'

Rangers icon Barry Ferguson has had his say on the club's call not to allow former Celtic manager Neil Lennon and striker Chris Sutton into their stadium as pundits.

Lennon and Sutton did not enter Ibrox for BT Sport's coverage of the Europa League clash between the Hoops and Real Betis earlier that evening.

The Premiership champions cited security concerns as the reasoning behind the decision with the broadcaster shifting temporarily to a London studio with Stiliyan Petrov standing in.

They also stated: “We have complied with all UEFA contractual obligations to facilitate BT.

“Any conjecture or speculation is inaccurate and unhelpful.”

BT were allowed to present from the stadium for Rangers' tie against Lyon with Darrell Currie alongside club legends Ally McCoist and David Weir.

And speaking on Go Radio, Ferguson quipped his colleagues on the airwaves better not be thinking about sending him to Parkhead.

But the former Gers captain insists he's always loved the city rivalry and insists only a small minority of fans force these decisions.

He said: "I hope you're not sending me to Celtic Park!

"There's always going to be a bit of banter, you don't mind having a wee pop at each other but as long as it doesn't go over the top.

"I'm sure if you ask any ex-Rangers or ex-Celtic player, they wouldn't mind that.

"But it's always a small minority that let it down.

"The vast majority of fans would have a friendly go at them, which is natural. I don't mind that. I have good banter with Celtic fans when it's friendly, there's no issues for me.

"But it's just that small minority that do let it down, unfortunately."
