Barry Ferguson laps up Rangers roar from Steven Gerrard as Ibrox legend praises unsung masterstroke that sealed huge win

Rangers legend Barry Ferguson loved seeing Steven Gerrard throw it back to his early days as gaffer with a roaring full-time celebration.

The Ibrox boss reacted to the whistle against Hibs at the weekend with passion as he embraced his players on the park before turning to all four stands, roaring and punching the air with delight.

It was an outpouring of relief after a fraught 90 minutes where his team had to fight for three points against a dogged capital side determined to overcome a first-half setback.

They'd led through Kevin Nisbet but when Ryan Porteous was sent off on the half-hour mark defended for their lives.

In the end Kemar Roofe and Alfredo Morelos breached the resistance and ensured the three points would be staying in Govan.

And Ferguson was delighted to see his fellow gaffer letting his hair down after such a hard-fought victory.

He told Go Radio: "I think that's a bit of passion, a bit of relief. It was a big result, a big game.

"Listen, Hibs came to attack Rangers and win the game, there's no doubt in my mind, until the sending off happened.

"There was a bit of pressure on Rangers and after it, I don't mind that when the manager goes out and gives a bit of fist pumping.

"That's part and parcel of it."

Ferguson reckons Roofe's introduction for Fashion Sakala was important but he highlighted a move Gerrard made with his side in the ascendency to bring his side to the line.

He added: "The substitutions, I thought Roofe made a difference but bringing Davo (Steven Davis) on for the last 10 minutes, just to calm the game down...

"He just brings a real calmness to the place when it starts getting a bit edgy.

"It's 2-1, last 10 minutes and Hibs had a few free-kicks, so that was a really good substitution."
