Barry Ferguson in Rangers 'one or two' contracts claim as he fires Connor Goldson déjà vu warning

Barry Ferguson expects an overhaul at Rangers not too dissimilar to the one Celtic experienced as Ange Postecoglou arrived.

The Ibrox hero believes as little as two of the current nine out-of-contract Rangers stars will be available to Michael Beale come the start of next season. That is because Ferguson insists the Light Blues squad could do with a 'fresh start' with the futures of Ryan Kent and Alfredo Morelos being a point of contention since Beale's arrival with both attackers able to leave for free in the summer.

Veterans Allan McGregor, Steven Davis, Ryan Jack and Scott Arfield are all coming to the end of a contract as Beale admits many of the current crop still have a place in his plans. But Ferguson is pointing to the conveyor belt of Celtic's transfer business when Postecoglou arrived in Glasgow and believes a similar thing could happen across the city.

But the pundit has issued a stern warning that the saga of Connor Goldson's future that was resolved at the eleventh hour last year should not happen again.

He told Go Radio: "Out of the nine players I think one or two would be kept. Sometimes you need to start afresh. Similarly to what Postecoglou did when he came in. It was a massive turnaround of players that doesn't happen overnight.

"I'm not saying it will be as much at Rangers but I could see a number of players leaving and quite a few coming in - also guys in contract not just the out of contract players."

"They allowed it last year with Connor Goldson and I thought there was no chance but they announced it. I thought surely they will sit down with Ryan Kent and Morelos now as to not allow this situation to happen again. It could have gone against them.

"They're in the last twelve months of their deals now. They're going to walk out the door on a free. It's not so bad on Morelos because you only spent £1m on him but they spent £7m on Kent so it's a big loss."
