Barry Ferguson in Rangers Malik Tillman 'right thing to do' response over Partick Thistle free goal

Barry Ferguson has delivered his view on the Malik Tillman Ibrox moment against Partick Thistle as he offered a 'right thing to do' response.

The Rangers attacker caused a moment of drama after racing through on goal and firing the Light Blues 2-1 up against the Scottish Championship side as the Jags attempted to fire the ball back to the home side. The USA international was down injured at the time with boss Michael Beale explaining he was unware of what was going on as he cleared up the situation.

The Ibrox gaffer instructed his side to give now former boss Ian McCall's side a free goal to level up the scoring in a real moment of sportsmanship. Rangers went on to win the five-goal thriller with five minutes to play and book a quarter-final spot with Raith Rovers visiting Ibrox in the last eight as the holders bid for another Hampden outing.

Rangers legend Ferguson is in agreement with Beale that is was the right thing to do in giving Thistle the walk-through goal as he weighed in on the key talking point from the fifth round clash. Allan McGregor was the only one who didn't look too pleased at allowing Scott Tiffoney to race through and put the ball in an empty net and it got the Ibrox hero laughing.

He told Go Radio: "I believe it was the right thing to do.

"In defence of Tillman, he is down and unaware so he doesn't realise. It is a misunderstanding and then after that, the game was played in good spirits.

"I thought it was the right thing to do. I froze it a couple of times and Tillman was turned away from the situation.

"He has suffered a kick to the ankle and made a mistake, and the players let the Partick Thistle player score. Apart from Allan McGregor and as he (Scott Tiffoney) went into the box, I was thinking that Greegsy wasn't wanting him to score! But it was the right thing to do."
