Barry Ferguson in disbelieving Celtic claim as Rangers hero issues passionate defence of 'top performer'

Barry Ferguson insists he can't believe the stick some Celtic stars are given by a section of fans.

The Rangers legend is stunned by criticism aimed at the likes of James Forrest and others.

He's adamant the winger remains one of the club's "top performers" and pointed to his consistent goals return.

Ferguson says he accepts Forrest may not be "everybody's cup of tea" but maintains his record isn't up for debate.

He told Go Radio : "I can't believe the criticism some of the players get from Celtic fans.

" James Forrest, look, I know he's not everybody's cup of tea but, for me, he's still one of the top performers.

"Just look at his stats, his goals, I think he's played over 400 games for Celtic.

"Listen, I know he's not flying every week - but what footballer does?"

Forrest has 90 goals in his 403 Celtic appearances since making his debut in May 2010.

The 29-year-old has notched double figures in each of the last three seasons.
