Barry Ferguson demands Rangers and Celtic end ticket squabbles as he tells rivals to bring back old allocations

Former Rangers captain Barry Ferguson insists his former club and Celtic must sit down and fix a long-running ticket situation that took another turn last week.

Record Sport brought you the news on Friday that the Ibrox club would not be permitting any away fans for Sunday's big derby match in Govan – as they have not had assurances from Parkhead that travelling Gers supporters will be able to attend the next fixture around the festive period.

It comes after a decision in May 2018 when Rangers dramatically slashed the allocation available to Celtic fans from the entire Broomloan Stand to a small corner of 800 fans, with their rivals responding in kind.

Ferguson, speaking on Go Radio, insists enough is enough.

And now that fans are back in their numbers post-pandemic, he's called on the clubs to sort the situation out to bring back one of the best elements of the showpiece fixture.

He said: “The fans are going to be in, but I’m just disappointed it’s not back to the way it was four or five years ago.

“You walk out at Ibrox. If you’re a player, you look to your left and there’s 8,000 Celtic fans and the other three stands are full of Rangers fans.

“Get it back to being like that. And the same at Celtic Park, 8,000 Rangers fans travelling and supporting their team.

“It just disappoints me, if you asked all the ex-players they’d want the opposition fans there.

“It’s great when it’s just your own fans but me growing up and playing in it, it was special.

“Going over to take a corner kick, you were going over to the Broomloan and you knew you were going to get absolute pelters.

“But that’s what it was all about! That fired you up.”
