Barry Ferguson calls for Rangers 'big characters' as Ibrox great reflects on a week to forget

Former Rangers captain Barry Ferguson has called on the current crop of Rangers stars to show their character to overcome their current rut.

Rangers have now suffered three losses in a row after their Champions League exit at the hands of Swedish side Malmo and defeat to Dundee United at Tannadice on league duty.

Former captain Ferguson believes that the current squad of Rangers players must show more character and for the leaders in the dressing room to emerge if they are to turn around their form.

Speaking on Go Radio ahead of Rangers' Premier Cup clash against Dunfermline, he said: "It is important that they get back to winning ways.

"It has been a real difficult week in terms of results, three defeats, absolute bombshell going out against Malmo, no doubt about that.

"It was a great opportunity for them to get back to the Champions League group stage.

"At Rangers one defeat is a disaster, so the most important thing for this Rangers team, it might be the Premier Sports Cup, is getting back to winning ways against Dunfermline tonight.

"This is where you need big characters, and there are big characters in that dressing room but sometimes it is not up to the manager.

"Sometimes you have to close the door and have a good chat amongst each other, tell a few home truths and the only way to get back to winning ways is to try harder on the training pitch.

"The most important thing is they get back to winning ways and quickly."
