Barry Douglas outlines the 'big boost' that Helder Costa will bring to Leeds United

Barry Douglas says Leeds United have a player that can 'create stuff from nothing' in Helder Costa .

The Portuguese winger was snapped up by Leeds this week on an initial loan deal that will become permanent next summer.

That sees the 25-year-old reunited with Douglas, after the two played together in Wolves' 2017-18 Championship-winning side and the Scot knows exactly what his old friend will bring to West Yorkshire.

"Helder's a great acquisition for the club and for the team," Douglas told LUTV .

Barry Douglas and Helder Costa were team-mates at Wolves (Leeds United)

"It's given everyone a big boost because he's got so much quality. We'll hopefully see that this season. He's a player that can create stuff from nothing and unlock defences so I think that's what we'll be looking forward to seeing this year."

Costa was one of seven new arrivals at Thorp Arch this week , with the club adding players at senior, under-23s and under-18s levels, with Douglas talking up the importance of adding fresh impetuous to the squad which finished third in the Championship last season before falling in the play-off semi-finals.

"It's a boost," the left-back continued. "Especially off of last year, it's always nice to see a few new faces coming in and look forward to the challenge ahead. We're looking froward to it.

"Once the games come we'll get to see how each other plays and get to know everyone a bit better and hopefully we can go as a group and be successful."

Douglas is fit again following the season-ending injury which brought his campaign to a premature end earlier this year but now has two full weeks of training under hit belt and is looking forward to getting out on the pitch.

"It's progressing nice," he added. "It's been hard work. I think the boys are obviously tired but we're working hard and getting fitter and looking forward to the games coming in the next few weeks."

Leeds head to York on Wednesday evening for their first pre-season friendly of the summer, before visiting Guiseley the following evening. They will then head out to Australia next weekend for their tour Down Under.
