MidCoast Council has recommenced drawing water from the Barrington River at Gloucester after resorting to trucking water to the town from the Tea Gardens Aquifer in December after the river ran dry.
Council said trucks would continue to carry water to the town's reservoirs to supplement that drawn from the Barrington as the Gloucester water treatment plant gradually comes back online. Recent rainfall has returned flows to the river, but strict level four water restrictions will continue.
"We are also sending a truck to Stroud to top up the water storage, and sending another to top up our reservoir at Kolodong near Taree, as a trial just in case that's ever required in future," MidCoast Infrastructure and Engineering Services director Rob Scott said.
The water treatment plant is expected to take several days to return to full operation.
