Barriers installed to stop Nottingham delivery drivers using path 'at high speed'

New barriers have been installed on a pedestrian pathway following concerns delivery drivers on mopeds were using it as a cut-through.

Councillor Sam Webster, who represents the Castle ward in Nottingham, says residents in the area had been complaining about mopeds and delivery drivers travelling on the pathway between Lenton Road and Park Road "at high speed".

As a result Nottingham City Council has installed new metal barriers to improve the safety of pedestrians.

The new barriers are staggered and should help slow down and prevent moped drivers from using the pathway as a cut-through.

Councillor Webster said: "We're installing street furniture at the end of Lenton Road at the pedestrian junction with Park Road to improve pedestrian safety.

"We've had lots of reports of mopeds and delivery riders travelling at high speed at the cut-through causing a hazard."

Workers were in the area installing the new barriers on February 23 and have since completed the task.

The Castle councillors for Nottingham city centre, Park Estate and Castle Marina group added: "The installation of staggered barriers should improve pedestrian safety.

"You said, we did."

Councillor Webster said the barriers had been designed to allow wheelchair users and those with pushchairs to pass through.

He added: "It's designed with the safety for wheelchair and pushchair users in mind.

"We've had high speed mopeds and scooters causing a hazard for other users so seeking to slow down only."
