Barrie McDermott calls out Warrington Wolves forwards ahead of Leigh Centurions clash

Sky Sports rugby league pundit Barrie McDermott believes all the pressure is on Warrington head coach Steve Price in today’s clash with relegation favourites Leigh Centurions.

Price came early-season scrutiny after his men were comprehensively outplayed by Castleford Tigers in their opening game last weekend.

The Australian will leave the club at the end of the season and admitted his men were second-best against the Tigers.

Looking ahead to today’s lunchtime showdown, McDermott told Sky Sports’ presenter Brian Carney: “What Warrington need to do is play well and win well.

“They need to play with an energy and an intensity that was missing at times last week.

“The forwards need to play with a bit more ‘dog’ and prove they are no pushovers.”

Former St Helens stalwart Jon Wilkin also had his say on the pressure that Warrington have come under.

Wilkin said: “I’d actually say the pressure on Warrington is a privilege for Leigh.

“Having no pressure is a false economy for me because there is nobody really scrutinising what you’re doing, but being at the top of your game as an athlete brings pressure.”

Price was asked about the magnitude of the game but played down, saying: “Every game is important but the best thing is for us is that it’s a solid display.”

The Wolves boss was also asked about reports linking England hooker Daryl Clark with a move to Gold Coast Titans.

He said: “No, Daz is contracted to our club. He’s a fantastic player and well respected within our organisation.”
