Barrak al-Geat Studies Migration, Exodus in Arabic Texts

Az-Zahiriyah publishing house, Kuwait, has released a new book entitled "In the Literature of Migration, Exodus" by Kuwaiti critic Dr. Barrak al-Geat.

The book shed lights on migration and exodus in Arabic texts by exploring two novels: "Season of Migration to the North," by Sudanese novelist Tayeb Salih; and "Makam Aziz" by Saudi novelist Abdulaziz Al Jassem.

In his book, al-Geat seeks to "draw an advanced picture of the systematic Arabic criticism away from the academic and theoretical matters that are not actually applied in criticism. Critics currently use a general analysis supported by a research of the literary techniques that contribute to building the literary quality of novels."

The Kuwaiti writer calls for "changing the theoretical method used to criticize literary works, and quitting the so-called 'journalistic criticism' that focuses on the critical theories without considering the way they are applied on the text."

He also noted that "the critic's efforts to support the literary movement and select valuable literary works are the key contributor to highlighting these works, and creating a new literary scene."

The book has three sections, each including several chapters that study the literary elements and techniques, and provide a detailed discussion on migration and exodus.
