Baron Samedi's Glasgow: Plans for New Orleans-style bar and kitchen in city centre

Planning permission has been sought to pave the way for the arrival of a New Orleans-style bar in Glasgow city centre.

Council planners are currently reviewing an application to convert the former Esca Italian at 27 Chisholm Street into a 'New Orleans Bar & Kitchen' called Baron Samedi's.

The plans, submitted on behalf of Wild Deer Hospitality, seek a redecoration of the current shopfront, with the unit - which also has a frontage on Parnie Street - already benefitting from Class 3 planning use.

There is limited detail on what Glaswegians can expect from Baron Samedi's however indicative shopfront proposals have been included as part of the planning application.

Esca restaurant announced its closure last July after 22 years of serving customers in the centre of Glasgow. Owners said: "After 22 years, having served over 740,000 customers it is with tremendous sadness that we reluctantly announce the closure of Esca Restaurant.

"It has been a painful decision, however due to increasing costs, the economic climate and the long-term effect the Coronovirus pandemic has had on us all, sadly, our small business is no longer a viable one."
