Barnsley boss Gerhard Struber has confirmed Elliot Simoes will miss their clash against Leeds United with ankle ligament damage.
The Whites' Yorkshire rivals head to Elland Road on Thursday looking to boost their hopes of Championship survival.
For Leeds, they need only four more points to secure their places in the Premier League for next season and could be promoted with victory over the Tykes if Brentford fail to beat Preston 24 hours earlier.
Their hopes of securing that win have been handed a boost after Struber confirmed Simoes will miss the clash on Thursday.
Simoes has been a key performer for Barnsley since Struber arrived, scoring two goals.
However, after he was on receiving end of a late challenge from Wigan Athletic's Danny Fox, which saw the Latics defender sent off, he will miss the Elland Road trip.
"We have a problem with Elliott Simoes, he is not ready to play on Thursday," Struber told BBC Radio Sheffield.
"He has an issue with his ankle and it's swelling, it's a ligament problem, he's had a scan and I hope it's not a big impact. At the moment, he's not ready. This was from Saturday, it was a foul on him and a hit on his ankle.
"I hope it's not a rupture on the ligament but we will see in the next few hours."
On the prospect of facing against Marcelo Bielsa for the first time, he said: "It is a big coach with big experience and also with a big plan in position and style.
"This is the big headline from him. He is also a big name in Austria.
"Leeds is a side with an unbelievable plan on the ball."
