Barnsley midfielder gives fan free tickets for Twitter support after Bristol City loss

A Barnsley midfielder has offered a Tykes fan free tickets after receiving praise over Twitter, despite his side losing to Bristol City at Ashton Gate.

Former Derby County midfielder Luke Thomas, previously linked with a move to City in 2016, messaged a fan who had been praising him on the social media platform and offered him the tickets to Barnsley's next home game against Preston North End on Tuesday.

Robins full back Jay Dasilva held off a challenge from Thomas as his magnificent dribble and cross set up Niclas Eliasson for the winner in the 87th minute, but fan Ant Clare focused on the positives after the game.

Mr Clare tweeted to say: "Thought Thomas was excellent today, carried the ball really well, probably should’ve come off earlier though, the lads 19, we need to protect him.

"Don’t blame him for losing the ball.... s**t happens and he’s learning his trade."

And Thomas then messaged him privately on Twitter after the tweet, and said: "Hi Ant, thanks you for all the support.

"I was wondering what I could do to give a fan like yourself something back for all the support you give to me and the players.

"I want to give you four tickets to the game on Tuesday evening. Thanks you again, we really appreciate it!"

Mr Clare then shared the tweet with his followers with the caption: "Our club > your club."

Other fans were quick to praise Thomas in the replies, with Barnsley fans happy to see one of their young players giving back to the fans.

20-year-old Thomas started his career at Cheltenham Town and is from Gloucestershire, and was linked with a move to Bristol City when playing for the League Two side.

However, he eventually signed for Derby County, and following loan spells at Gloucester City and Coventry City signed for Barnsley in 2019.
