Barnsley head coach Daniel Stendel leaves the club

Barnsley have this morning confirmed that manger Daniel Stendel has left the club with immediate effect.

Stendel, who joined the Tykes in June 2018, lead the club back into the Championahip as League One runners-up to Luton Town last season, just pipping Sunderland in the process.

However, he found life tough going at the higher level so far this season.

Barnsley currently sit second bottom of the Championship table having won just one of their 11 league matches so far this season.

A club statement released on Tuesday morning read: "Barnsley Football Club confirms that it has separated from Daniel Stendel with immediate effect. Adam Murray has been appointed caretaker manager."

Stendel's final game in charge saw his side suffer a 5-1 hammering at the hands of Preston North End on Saturday afternoon, leaving them two points adrift of safety in the Championship table.

Murray's first game in temporary charge of the Tykes will be against Swansea City on Saturday, October 19.
