Barnsley handed positive injury update ahead of Nottingham Forest clash

Barnsley will have almost a full squad available for selection when they face Nottingham Forest on Wednesday night.

Boss Markus Schopp has provided a positive update on the injury front as his side prepare to host the Reds at Oakwell in midweek.

Forest started their new era under manager Steve Cooper with a 1-1 draw at home to Millwall on Saturday. But they remain in the Championship relegation zone, with five points to their name.

Their next opponents have also been struggling for results. Barnsley have just three more points than the Reds and have only won once this term.

That has left Schopp under pressure, although he has had injury problems to deal with.

However, the Austrian saw Ben Williams, Josh Benson and Jordan Williams return to his matchday squad for the weekend’s 1-0 defeat at Blackpool, with Romal Palmer also pushing for a start after recovering from a minor injury.

Defender Mads Andersen and Carlton Morris are the only longer-term absentees who are not yet back in training.

“We want to win every game, and it’s something I said before the first game,” Schopp told the club website ahead of Wednesday night.

“I know what qualities we have as a team and it’s so important that we use that on the pitch and it’s important to be clear with the basics.

“I’m glad that this week we had almost all the players back in training. Except for Carlton and Mads, all players are available and this is something we haven’t had all season, so this is a good thing.

“It’s a situation where we can start competing in certain positions and for a couple of young lads, it’s important that there’s pressure.”

Barnsley's only league win came in their second Championship outing of the campaign, against Coventry City last month.

They have drawn with Cardiff City, QPR, Birmingham City, Stoke City and Blackburn Rovers.
